Vancouver Canada to Point Roberts USA July 28th , 2008

We left Vancouver and headed for US waters. Point Roberts is a small peninsula that is connected to only Canadian land and is therefore an isolated section of the US hanging down south of the 49th Parallel. It was simply a stopping point for us as we thought we would have to clear customs upon entering US waters. Since we have the Nexus cards we are allowed to call when we are in US waters, and we were told we did not have to report in to customs. Since we had not planned on going further we decided to stay in Point Roberts anyway. The Point Roberts Marina calls itself a resort, but if you have no need to report to customs it is not really worth the stop. There are no restaurants nearby and the chandlery is very small and limited. You can walk a moderate distance to both an isolated pub and a grocery store. Since there was not much else to do there we did just that. It simply did not endear us one way or another and we did not even take any pictures, which is very unusual for us. It may be a good place to keep a boat, since you are positioned to travel either to the San Juan or the Gulf Islands, but it is not a destination location in and of itself.
